Independent and transparent
We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Japan Foundation or Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES), which organise the JLPT. Level assignments for vocabulary, kanji and grammar are our curriculum choices, not official lists, and sample content is labelled until a qualified reviewer has checked it.
Dictionary data and credits
- Word meanings come from JMdict and kanji readings and meanings from KANJIDIC2, property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence.
- JLPT level lists for words and kanji were compiled by Jonathan Waller (CC BY), via the yomitan-jlpt-vocab and kanji-data projects. The JLPT does not publish official lists, so these levels are an educated guess.
- Example sentences for words come from Tatoeba (CC BY 2.0 FR). Each sentence lists its Tatoeba number in the item's source details.
- Grammar explanations and their examples were written with AI assistance and have not yet been checked by a qualified Japanese teacher.
- Regional pricing uses IP Geolocation by DB-IP (CC BY 4.0).
